The idea for Women of Surfing was born in 2021 from a simple, heartfelt desire to celebrate female surfers—their strength, individuality, and connection to the ocean. What started as a local photography project quickly blossomed into something deeply meaningful, for me and the women who discovered the project.
Like many creative endeavors, life pulled me in different directions. Over the past years, between my growing photography business and managing a hotel, I couldn't give this project the time and energy it deserved. Women of Surfing took a back seat—not forgotten, just paused.

Now, though, it feels like the perfect time for a new beginning.
This renewed energy stems from my decision to apply for the Grand Prix Images Vevey, a prestigious photographic competition and exposition held biannually in Vevey, Switzerland. Set against the stunning Swiss Alps, this event draws photographers and artists from around the globe, showcasing projects that challenge, inspire, and captivate. I can't imagine a better platform to reintroduce Women of Surfing to the world.
For the competition, I'm returning to the project's essence. I'll recreate the black-and-white portraits that first brought the concept to life, capturing the raw beauty and power of the women behind the boards. I'll also craft new lifestyle images, pairing each surfer with their board to reflect both their connection to the sport and their unique personalities.
Women of Surfing - Surf Trip
This isn't just about a competition submission. It's about rekindling a project I love. Women of Surfing is, at its heart, about connection—between women, between surfers, between people and the sea. It celebrates the diversity, strength, and resilience of women who live and breathe the surf lifestyle. Reimagining these images for the competition feels like the perfect launchpad toward what I envision: a global platform celebrating female surfers through art, storytelling, and community.
There's significant work ahead, but I'm thrilled about this new chapter. I'm embracing the process—planning shoots, reconnecting with the women who inspired this journey, and exploring fresh creative directions.
As this new beginning unfolds, I'll share updates here on the blog. I'd love for you to join me on this photography journey.
Here's to Women of Surfing: a celebration, a story, and a movement worth restarting.
